F.F.Bruce

Frederick Fyvie Bruce (12 de outubro de 1910 - 11 de Setembro de 1990) foi um estudioso da Bíblia, e um dos fundadores da moderna compreensão evangélica da Bíblia. Sua obra "Documentos do Novo Testamento: São confiáveis?" é considerada um clássico na disciplina de apologética cristã.

Ele nasceu em Elgin, Moray, na Escócia, e foi educado na Universidade de Aberdeen, na Universidade de Cambridge e na Universidade de Viena. Depois de ensinar grego por vários anos, primeiro na Universidade de Edimburgo e, em seguida, na Universidade de Leeds, ele tornou-se chefe do Departamento de História e Literatura Bíblica na Universidade de Sheffield, em 1947. Em 1959, mudou-se para a Universidade de Manchester, onde se tornou professor de crítica e exegese bíblica. Em sua carreira, escreveu cerca de trinta e três livros e atuou como editor da revista "The Quarterly Evangélica" e da "Palestina Exploration Quarterly". Ele se aposentou em 1978.

Bruce era um distinto estudioso sobre a vida e ministério do Apóstolo Paulo, e escreveu vários estudos, o mais conhecido dos quais é "Paulo: Apóstolo do Coração Livre". Ele também escreveu comentários sobre vários livros bíblicos, incluindo Romanos, Atos dos Apóstolos, 1 e 2 Coríntios, Evangelho e Epístolas de João, a Epístola aos Hebreus.

A maioria de suas obras eram acadêmicos, mas ele também escreveu várias obras sobre a Bíblia que foram muito populares. Ele considerava os escritos do Novo Testamento como historicamente confiáveis e reivindicações da verdade do cristianismo. Para Bruce isso não significa que a Bíblia sempre foi precisa, mas que esta falta de precisão não poderia levar a uma considerável confusão. Ele acredita, no entanto, que as passagens que estavam ainda em aberto para debate não tinham qualquer influência substancial sobre a teologia e o pensamento cristão.

Ele foi homenageado com dois trabalhos acadêmicos por seus colegas e ex-alunos, um para marcar o seu sexagésimo e outro para marcar o seu septuagésimo aniversário. Foi eleito "Fellow of the British Academy", e serviu como presidente da Sociedade para estudo do Antigo Testamento, e também como presidente da Sociedade para o Estudo do Novo Testamento. Ele é um dos poucos estudiosos que tiveram reconhecidos seus estudos em ambos os campos (Antigo e Novo Testamento).
