Oscar Cullmann

Oscar Cullmann

Oscar Cullmann (25 de fevereiro de 1902, em Estrasburgo - 16 de Janeiro de 1999, Chamonix, França) foi um teólogo cristão na tradição luterana. Ele é mais conhecido por seu trabalho no movimento ecumênico, sendo em parte responsável pelo estabelecimento do diálogo entre os luteranos e as tradições católicas romanas. Por causa de seu intenso trabalho ecumênico, Basel Cullmann colega Karl Barth, brincou com ele que seu túmulo conteria a inscrição "assessor de três papas. Ele foi convidado para ser um observador no Concílio Vaticano II.

Cullmann nasceu em Estrasburgo (então na Alemanha) e estudou filologia clássica e teologia no seminário de lá. Em 1926, ele aceitou o cargo de professor adjunto, cargo ocupado anteriormente por Albert Schweitzer.

Em 1930 ele foi premiado com a catedra de Novo Testamento, começando em 1936 a ensinar também  História da Igreja Primitiva. Em 1938, ele começou a ensinar as duas matérias no Basileia Reformed Seminary. Em 1948, ele aceitou uma posição para ensinar teologia em Paris, na Sorbonne, enquanto ele continuou em Basileia. Aposentou-se de ambos em 1972.

Cullmann realizou estudos sobre cristologia e escatologia cristã, o que o levou a propor uma terceira posição, diferente das posições populares de C.H. Dodd e Albert Schweitzer, conhecida como "história da redenção". Ele escreveu que Jesus Cristo foi o ponto central da história sagrada, que pertence à história geral, e que funciona de forma linear, desde a criação até a consumação. Ele ressaltou a realidade objetiva da história sagrada contra a interpretação existencialista de Rudolf Bultmann, um teólogo alemão companheiro.

Após a sua morte em 1999, aos 96 anos, o Conselho Mundial de Igrejas publicou uma homenagem especial a Cullmann em honra ao seu trabalho ecumênico.

Charles H. Dodd

C. H. Dodd

Charles Harold Dodd (07 de abril de 1884 - 21 de setembro de 1973) foi um estudioso do Novo Testamento galês e teólogo protestante influente. Ele é conhecido por promover a "escatologia realizada", a crença de que as referências de Jesus ao reino de Deus significam uma realidade do presente realidade ao invés de uma revelação futura.

Dodd nasceu em Wrexham, Denbighshire, País de Gales, tendo como irmão o historiador A.H. Dodd. Ele estudou os clássicos na University College, Oxford, a partir de 1902. Após graduar-se em 1906 ele passou um ano em Berlim, onde foi influenciado por Adolf Harnack.

Ele foi um ministro Congregacional por três anos em Warwick, depois de ter sido ordenado sacerdote em 1912, antes de ir para academia. De 1915 ele recebeu o grau de "Yates Lecturer" de Novo Testamento pela Universidade de Oxford. Ele se tornou "Rylands Professor" na Universidade de Manchester em 1930. Foi professor de Teologia na Universidade de Cambridge a partir de 1935, tornando-se emérito em 1949. Seus alunos de Cambridge incluem David Daube e WD Davies. Os três juntos, cada um com seu próprio trabalho, promoveram mudanças nos estudos do Novo Testamento com a obra "Nova perspectiva sobre Paulo".

Dirigiu o trabalho dos tradutores da New English Bible, a partir de 1950.

A Filha de Dodd, Rachel casou-se com o erudito de Antigo Testamento Rev. E.W. Heaton, em 1951.

Leon Morris

Leon Lamb Morris (15 de março de 1914 - 24 de julho de 2006) foi um estudioso australiano do Novo Testamento.

Nascido em Lithgow, New South Wales, Morris recebeu seu Ph.D. da Universidade de Cambridge, na Inglaterra, sobre o tema que se tornou seu primeiro grande livro, "A Pregação Apostólica da Cruz". Ele serviu como diretor de Tyndale House, Cambridge (1960-1964); Principal de Ridley College, em Melbourne (1964-1979), Austrália (onde nomearam uma biblioteca em sua homenagem) e Professor Visitante do Novo Testamento na Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Publicou várias obras teológicas e comentários sobre a Bíblia, com destaque para "A Pregação Apostólica da Cruz", "A Expiação: seu significado e importância", "Teologia do Novo Testamento", e "O Evangelho Segundo João" (parte da New International Commentary sobre o Novo Testamento série) e "O Evangelho Segundo São Mateus" (IVP / Eerdmans, 1992).

F. F. Bruce

F.F.Bruce

Frederick Fyvie Bruce (12 de outubro de 1910 - 11 de Setembro de 1990) foi um estudioso da Bíblia, e um dos fundadores da moderna compreensão evangélica da Bíblia. Sua obra "Documentos do Novo Testamento: São confiáveis?" é considerada um clássico na disciplina de apologética cristã.

Ele nasceu em Elgin, Moray, na Escócia, e foi educado na Universidade de Aberdeen, na Universidade de Cambridge e na Universidade de Viena. Depois de ensinar grego por vários anos, primeiro na Universidade de Edimburgo e, em seguida, na Universidade de Leeds, ele tornou-se chefe do Departamento de História e Literatura Bíblica na Universidade de Sheffield, em 1947. Em 1959, mudou-se para a Universidade de Manchester, onde se tornou professor de crítica e exegese bíblica. Em sua carreira, escreveu cerca de trinta e três livros e atuou como editor da revista "The Quarterly Evangélica" e da "Palestina Exploration Quarterly". Ele se aposentou em 1978.

Bruce era um distinto estudioso sobre a vida e ministério do Apóstolo Paulo, e escreveu vários estudos, o mais conhecido dos quais é "Paulo: Apóstolo do Coração Livre". Ele também escreveu comentários sobre vários livros bíblicos, incluindo Romanos, Atos dos Apóstolos, 1 e 2 Coríntios, Evangelho e Epístolas de João, a Epístola aos Hebreus.

A maioria de suas obras eram acadêmicos, mas ele também escreveu várias obras sobre a Bíblia que foram muito populares. Ele considerava os escritos do Novo Testamento como historicamente confiáveis e reivindicações da verdade do cristianismo. Para Bruce isso não significa que a Bíblia sempre foi precisa, mas que esta falta de precisão não poderia levar a uma considerável confusão. Ele acredita, no entanto, que as passagens que estavam ainda em aberto para debate não tinham qualquer influência substancial sobre a teologia e o pensamento cristão.

Ele foi homenageado com dois trabalhos acadêmicos por seus colegas e ex-alunos, um para marcar o seu sexagésimo e outro para marcar o seu septuagésimo aniversário. Foi eleito "Fellow of the British Academy", e serviu como presidente da Sociedade para estudo do Antigo Testamento, e também como presidente da Sociedade para o Estudo do Novo Testamento. Ele é um dos poucos estudiosos que tiveram reconhecidos seus estudos em ambos os campos (Antigo e Novo Testamento).

George E. Ladd

George Eldon Ladd (1911-1982) era um ministro Batista e professor de Novo Testamento, exegese e teologia no Seminário Teológico Fuller em Pasadena, Califórnia

Ladd foi oordenado pastor em 1933 e exerceu o seu pastorado em New England (EUA) de 1936 to 1945. . Ele serviu como um instrutor na escola Gordon College de Teologia e Missões (atualmente Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary), Wenham, Massachusetts entre 1942-1945. Ele foi professor de Novo Testamento
e grego entre 1946-50, e chefe do departamento do Novo Testamento entre 1946-49. No período de 1950-52 ele foi professor adjunto do Seminário Teológico Fuller, em Pasadena, Califórnia, tornando-se professor de Teologia Bíblica em 1952.

A obrta prima de Ladd é sua Teologia do Novo Testamento, utilizada por milhares de seminaristas desde a sua publicação em 1974. Este trabalho foi melhorado e atualizado por Donald A. Hagner em 1993.

Ladd foi uma dos notáveis defensores modernos do pré-milenismo histórico e, muitas vezes, crítico do modelo dispensacionalista em vários de seus pontos. Sua perspectiva é expressa em "O Significado do Milênio: 4 visões, RG Clouse, editor (Downers Grove: Intervarsity Press, 1977) e menor e mais acessível de seus livros: "O Evangelho do Reino" (Paternoster, 1959).

Claude Duvall Cole

Pastor batista, Claude Duvall Cole era defensor da doutrina cristã, posicionando-se como um grande estudioso  do modelo teológico calvinista. Pastoreou várias igrejas batistas nos Estados Unidos durante vários anos. Além do pastorado, foi professor durante alguns anos no Seminário Batista de Toronto, em Toronto, Ontário, Canadá.

Os seus escritos foram publicados em vários jornais batistas nos Estados Unidos. O Pastor Cole foi para o céu em 1968.

A Igreja Batista de Bryan Station, Lexington, Kentucky, EUA começou publicar seus escritos pouco antes da sua morte e continua fazendo até agora. O jornal batista de Bryan Station é chamada o "Batista Pioneiro" e tem uma publicação mensal.
